The retrospective activation of the camera based detection of traffic signs ensures that the full range of functions of the assistance systems are available.
This assistance system offers the camera based detection and display of overtaking restrictions, speed limits, including temporary speed limits (for example on motorways). Within the system limits the system detects the beginning and end of motorways, express ways, urban areas as well as traffic calmed zones and displays the respective speed limit. In addition a situation dependent detection of the traffic sign occurs for wet and foggy situations and when towing (for factory fitted towing hitches) and for daylight dependent speed limits. If a traffic sign is outside of the camera viewing field, it is possible that it can be provided by the data of the optional MMI navigation system or MMI navigation system plus with MMI touch provided it is stored on the system. The display of traffic signs occurs automatically in the display of the instrument panel or the Audi virtual cockpit and can be configured via the optional multifunction steering wheel. Up to 3 road traffic signs can be exclusively displayed or the current relevant requirement as an additional display of another system (e.g. digital speed display). The system has a purely informative character. In addition the optional MMI has the possibility of providing a traffic sign based warning when exceeding the recognized speed limit.
